Beans nuts and seeds

Beans, nuts, and seeds are collectively called legumes and include beans, lentils, lupin bean, soybeans, peanuts, cashew, almonds and tamarind. Legumes are plants whose fruits are contained in pods. They form a very important part of a balanced diet.
Dietician Sheela Sherawat, of Diet Clinic, explains - The importance of legumes lies in the presence in large quantities of vegetable proteins, fiber, minerals and vitamins found in them and they are also low in lipids. Beans, peas, and nuts, are rich in lysine, an essential amino acid. Beans contain soluble fiber which helps lower LDL or “bad” cholesterol. They also contain folic acid, copper, iron, and magnesium.
