Sustainable and healthy diets
Today the global food system is destroying the environment on which the future food production depends. We might be on a very healthy diet- eating protein, good carbs, & healthy fats. But, can you imagine yourself following the same diet for life or at least for the next 50years? -It’s not just about that Sustainable means- dietary or food consumption that protects the environment.
For a diet to be truly sustainable, it should protect human life, health, & environment in the widest sense.
1-They should protect and respect the biodiversity & ecosystems.
2-They are culturally acceptable.
3-Economically fair & affordable.
4-Accessible.
5-Nutritionally adequate.
6-Safe & healthy.
7-Optimising natural & Human resource’s.
It’s considered too hard to achieve all this, as it’s difficult enough to get consumers to change their diets for health. Just one in four adults consume the recommended five-a-day for veggies & fruits. .
