Acidity and Your Body

A very thin line between good health and illness is known as acid alkaline balance in the body. If the pH is varying from 7.0 to 7.4, then a human body can feel good but it arises up and an imbalance in the body may occur.


Acidosis
Acidosis is a medical condition that generally occurs when our body becomes overly acidic. In this, the pH value of saliva reduced to 6.0. A litmus paper is used for testing it. As you wake up in the morning, check your saliva on an empty stomach. By dipping a pH strip in the saliva, observe its colour after a minute. If it ranges from 7.0 to 7.3, then you are healthy and if it ranges from 4.5 to 6.0, then it says you are acidosis. There are a few symptoms that show you have acidosis like body ache, headaches, strong acid perspiration, foul-smelling stools, hard stools, alternating with diarrhoea, sunken eyes, water retention, insomnia.

Foods to treat acidity!
To attain a pH balance, it is important to give your body an 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acid forming foods. If your body is acidic, then switch to foods like fresh fruits, watermelon, mangoes, apples, guava, pears, vegetables like potatoes, dudhi, turi etc.  Honey, dates, corn, millets, mushrooms, raisins, curd also have an alkalizing effect.
