Ayurveda, just doesn’t prescribes medicines for weight loss, but instead teaches us how to lead a healthy lifestyle, what and what not to eat. It also recommends certain household remedies that has been used by generations after generations to get free of excess fat with no side effects.

  • Lemon juice and honey: a mixture of 4 teaspoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey in warm water taken regularly empty stomach is very effective in weight loss without any side effects. You can add some crushed black peppers if you want.
  • Mint and honey: again some honey with cooled boiled mint leaves with some black peppers crushed and thrown in.
  • Cabbage: according to Ayurvedic information cabbage is considered to be very effective in burning body fat. It is recommended to take one bowl of cabbage every day in any form – raw, boiled or cooked.
  • Ginger and pepper: an equal quantities of powdered long pepper, black pepper and dried ginger roots mixed in lukewarm water to be taken twice a day is very effective in weight loss.
  • Ayurvedic herbs for weight loss: as per ancient Ayurvedic scriptures - Charaksamhita and Shushrutasamhita, there are several herbs that has been used by traditional medicinal practitioners to great effect in treating obesity and weight loss. These are:

Triphala: meaning three different fruits in Sanskrit. The most effective mix is rich in antioxidants that boost metabolism and speed up fat burning. It also destroys the harmful free radicals and toxins in the body that cause a number of health problems.


Piper Nigrum (Kali Mirchi): black pepper found in all kitchens is an effective carminative, stimulant, digestive, diuretic, aromatic, tonic, and anti-coagulating agent and is also a good herb that helps alienating fat from the body.


Nagarmotha (Cyperus Rotundus): considered the best natural ama-pachak, meaning the corrective and remover of endo-toxins. Its Lipolytic action to mobilize fats from the adipose tissues helps reduce weight.
