World Anti-Tobacco Day- 31 May

Use of tobacco is one of the leading preventable cause of death in the world. The wrath of tobacco is viral as millions of people die every year because of its use and thousands others are getting treated or may be waiting to die.
Though tobacco has been used through history in numerous ways for its social and medical effects to treat headaches, asthma, gout, labour pains, and even cancer. It was and has been used by monks to suppress sexual drives. Not all of these have been taken so benignly, it has been attributed for many health hazards like being lithesome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain and dangerous to the lungs.

 

The World Anti-Tobacco Day
May 31st every year is the World Anti- Tobacco Day, an annual awareness day to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use. The day is also taken as an opportunity to spread awareness that the use of tobacco is an important risk factor for the development of stroke, coronary heart diseases and peripheral vascular diseases.
The purpose is also to encourage public and government agencies across the globe to work towards strict regulations on tobacco use and its products and to draw global attention on the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and its negative health impacts.

 

The dangers of tobacco on our health
The risks involved with tobacco use are of very serious nature and should not be overlooked. Regardless of the brand and type of tobacco use, you are always at risk on your health and cannot be overlook till you quit it. Here are the risks of tobacco use that we all should be aware of:

  • Premature aging: tobacco usage and ageing are deeply related. So before you consider undergoing any therapy to rejuvenate your skin and regain your natural beauty consider quitting tobacco.
  • Many cancer (lungs/laryngeal/esophageal/stomach): the list does not ends here. The longer the duration of tobacco use, the deeper and dangerous are its health impacts.
  • Mental retardation and miscarriage: it has been observed that children born of mothers who use tobacco during pregnancy are mentally retarded and can also be in danger of miscarriage.
  • Stroke, high blood pressure and heart ailments: nicotine in tobacco work its way through to the heart. It further constrict your blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the body tissues, causing decreased self-healing.

 

Use food and drinks to quit tobacco use
Certain foods and drinks have potential benefit towards quitting tobacco use. Know them here:

  • Fruits and vegetables: nicotine blocks the absorption of essential nutrients like calcium, other minerals and vitamins. Fruits and vegetables help restoring them in the body and helps reducing tobacco craving.
  • Milk and Dairy: drinking milk and consuming dairy makes tobacco taste bitter and worst and deters smokers and tobacco users stay away.
  • Sugar free gums and mints: it helps in keeping the mouth busy and deters users from using tobacco and smoking. Also, the effect and taste of guns and mints stays linger in the mouth, longer than tobacco.

 

You should face the facts, tobacco kills faster than anything else. It is so that no one either tries to understand this or just don’t care about it, but atleast you can make efforts in educating other and especially the younger generation so that they never start using tobacco.
