The choices we make as parents largely affects and impacts not only our health and wellbeing but of our child as well. The world we live in today is very different from the one we live at as young kids. It’s a world that is fast paced, more demanding and ever-changing. With more families where both the parents work these days it has become more of a balancing act between home and office.
As parents we play a crucial role in helping our child and the family learn about healthy living and making healthier choices in life. In here we will focus on how our role as parents impacts not only our health and wellbeing but also for our kids and the family.

Healthy Habits Begins with Us
It is important to ensure that our kids develop healthy habits at an early stage. Good food habits are something that as a family we all can enjoy. It not only gives us all the energy to cope with the challenges that our daily life throws at us, but also helps our kids grow stronger and healthier. Remember your kids imitate you, they love to follow whatever you do. Set an example of active living by moving yourself and your kids. Teach your kids that good health and weight depends upon making the right food choices and on how much we move.
As young kids growing up, we and our friends used to get into a lot of extracurricular activities. We went to each other’s places and used to spend a lot of time outdoors. It’s time now to recall those days and look at them with more intricate view. Get your child in the simplest of activities along with you like grocery shopping, planning a meal for the family, food preparations and eating together. All these will encourage them to start understanding and making choices for them that are healthy and lasting. Delegate and share with them small responsibilities that they will enjoy and as well learn.

Raise a Healthy Kid
We understand that persuading a kid is not always easy. Always remember you might not win always in this battle, but you have to keep on trying just as a head coach who never leaves his hope on his team. Follow these basic simple rules with your kids and you will surely be a winner.

  • Expose them to variety of foods and keep patience
  • If a kid doesn’t eat a food for the first time, it doesn’t mean he or she will never eat it. Do not force them to eat anything in particular as it might become a punishment food for them. Try ways to make eating a fun. Studies have shown that they tend to eat those foods that looks attractive and enticing. E.g. instead of plain cut fruits give them the same fruits in skewers.

Build healthy snacking
Snacks should never be synonymous with treats. As kids they are more active and need to eat smaller amounts throughout the day. Ensure that their snacks are nutritionally equivalent to meals, balanced, nutritious and healthy.

Never reward them with sweet treats
It is not only because of the calories but also because of the fact that they will develop habits of sweet treats. They should always be applauded and rewarded for their good behaviour or some done good but never with candies and lollypops.

Lead by example
You cannot drink sweetened sodas for dinner and expect them to drink milk. Make physical activity and good habits a priority by yourself actively taking part in it and involving them as well.

Our levels of health and well-being physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually have a huge impact on our children and our entire family. If it's too much, then it's time to take a step back and make certain changes. You'll feel a lot better and your family will reap the rewards.
