Bigger meals, bigger plates and bigger waists. Look at the first two things in the previous sentence and it is not difficult to gauge that they lead to the third. It is no wonder that the modern world is struggling with the issues of obesity. In our childhood our mother would not let us leave the dining table till the time we finish everything that is there on our plate, no matter how big the plate is. This became our habit and we still ted to finish everything that is served on the plate.
Does the size of our plate impact on how much we eat? It might seems silly but studies conducted on this subject have revealed that this fact is true and the answer is yes.

A bigger serving leads to more eating and thus more calories, without actually considering the fact that we are eating more than we need. When we eat quickly from a plate in order to finish what’s on the plate, our brain does not have enough time to tell us that we had enough food to make us full. It almost takes about 20 minutes for the brain to get the signals from the stomach registering that it is full and as almost all meals take about 20 minutes to finish, we eat all that’s there on the plate and then realize that we are done.

So, what is the solution? Well, the answer to this is only one. Use a smaller plate size to control your eating portion. Normally, a standard dinner or meal plate is of 12 inches, adopt to buying a picking a smaller sized plate of about 10 inches which helps you consuming almost 22% less food. Correct and smaller meal portion sizes are vital in controlling weight. If you use a dinner set at home, pick up salad or dessert plates to eat pick up your meal. Believe it or not, you will still feel fuller and satisfied eating from a smaller plate size.
